Frequently Asked Questions
What is Slipstream: Rogue Space?
A multiplayer roguelike about teamwork, survival...and cute animals in space! Play with a few friends or join a streamer's crew of dozens as you work together to battle aliens across the vast Rogue Space.
Slipstream is a unique experience: streamers and their audience can jump into a game together in real-time, forging strong community ties.
How do I get started?
Slipstream is available FREE on Windows and Mac desktop via Steam, as well as on iOS/Android mobile. Grab the app of your choice right here and jump into a game.
Using your Twitch account to login, you can also play across platforms with full cross-progression support. You can also sign in with Steam, Google Play, and Apple ID.
Who can captain a ship?
Anyone playing on desktop is automatically a Captain in Slipstream and may launch ships any time. Many of our captains are streamers on platforms like Twitch and Youtube, but you don't need to stream or even bring friends to play. Launch a ship, start a run, and veteran Slipstream players may just hop aboard to help.
Please note that captains must use the desktop app (Windows or Mac) to launch a ship; launching from mobile devices may be supported in future.
How many people can play?
Game difficulty scales with your crew, so anything from a few friends up to dozens of players is fully supported. Ships are currently capped at 120 players, with the possibility of more in future.
What is the actual gameplay?
Slipstream is a multiplayer spaceship sim. Captains will make strategic decisions, give orders to crew, and carefully manage resources to try and navigate across treacherous regions of Rogue Space. Crew move around the ships in real-time, operating stations to fire on the enemy, charge shields, make repairs, repel boarders and more. The gameplay is easy to pick up, but mastery of the more difficult runs calls for an experienced captain and coordinated crew.
Which character should I choose?
Each character is a different class with unique strengths and weaknesses. They all have a role to play, so just pick the one you like best. You'll unlock them all as you play, and you'll also earn XP to level them up and customize their skill trees.
You can also unlock unique outfits for each crew member to customize their appearance. We're adding more outfits all the time, so keep an eye out for updates.
Is the game done?
Slipstream entered Beta in February 2024, which means it’s in a stable state with ongoing support, but we're far from done. We intend to add a shipload of features and content with updates as frequent as our tiny team can manage.
In the first few months of Beta, we've added: crew outfit customization, officer roles, daily challenge and bonus runs, crew skill respec, new enemies and regions to explore, Twitch drops, Steam/Apple/Google sign-in options, and tons of fixes and QOL improvements. Much more to come!
